该剧讲述了人工智能时代下，会说话的酷狗小八和它的动物加机器人朋友们帮助人类屡破奇案，以及萌宠、机器人和一群90后之间的情感故事。美君奇龙依然暧昧不清，众人开办机器人餐厅，为西西里安排相亲，萌妈熊爸齐上阵，闹出一系列啼笑皆非的趣事。更有散打王、大板牙等恶势力出现，挑战大侠小八。众人和机器人、猫狗一起推理破案，像柯南每两集破一案，不过他们的最终最强大死敌，是能和ALPHA GO叫板的超级机器人黑客黑暗信使。本剧以人物（及萌宠）的命运为主，爱恋贯穿、轻松搞笑、悬疑烧脑、又有爱与死的永恒煽情。

系列短片包含王泽丰执导的《升级》、赵鹤松执导的《无处不在》、姜晓通执导的《劫日礼物》以及柯达执导的《不许笑》，由四位新锐导演创作表达，以四个风格迥异的题材类型钩织四重体验、四段人生。《升级》以科幻犀利讽刺职场内卷；《无处不在》聚焦东亚家庭“以爱为名”的窒息亲情；《劫日礼物》围绕愣头青小弟和浪漫派狠人的白日一梦展开；《不许笑》则演绎出喜剧演员的幕后心酸。

颜一一和秦御几经生死，产生了深深的感情，特别是突发的疫情让他们认清了自己的内心，决心冲破一切困难相爱相守，但书中世界被严重改变，秦御又意外重伤，生命垂危。为了心上人，颜一一不得不忍痛回到了现实世界。
